A search has been launched to trace the whereabouts of a man who reportedly hit a woman 'multiple times' in a 'vicious attack' in Manchester this weekend.

At around 11.30am on Saturday (May 4), police received reports that a man assaulted a woman near to the junction of Kirkmanshulme Lane and Stockport Road in Longsight, Manchester.

It is believed the man hit the woman "multiple times" before the pair left the area in a taxi along Kirkmanshulme Lane.

Greater Manchester Police is now appealing to any witnesses to the attack or anyone with information, including CCTV or dashcam footage, which may link to the man and the woman to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Dave Bird of GMP City of Manchester Division said: "This was a vicious attack whereby a man hit a woman multiple times.

"After the assault, they both got into a taxi and left along Kirkmanshulme Lane.

"We are keen to trace the whereabouts of the pair and appealing for any witnesses to this attack.

"We are particularly interested in speaking with the taxi driver or viewing any dash cam footage that drivers in the area may have captured of the incident."
